Introducing Allyson Robinson
The Beautiful Daughter: How My Korean Mother Gave Me the Courage to Transition
Here is an amazing post by Andy Mara. Her NPR interview about is just ahead of this post.
Growing up, I remember making a pact with myself. As an adopted child I promised to find my family in Korea, but how exactly that would occur remained a mystery to me. I luckily had the unconditional support of my American family, even if they were stumped by my vague plan.
I later came out as a trans woman in 2003. I was also fortunate enough to receive an outpouring of love, acceptance and support from family and friends.
But there was always one barrier to my life of intersecting identities that I struggled to overcome. I could never find the will to move forward with my transition -- taking hormones or surgery -- despite the opportunity to do so. And my hesitation was largely due to my unknown family living far away in Korea.
Like me, more than 200,000 Korean babies and children have been sent overseas. But less than 3 percent of us are able to find our families. The odds were clearly not in my favor. But what if I did find my family after all these years? And how would they handle meeting a young woman instead of a baby boy who should have grown into manhood? I was left with few ideas

I love how she is out there, as a visible transwoman. Not many of us are able or willing to do it, but she does it with grace. She is an inspiration to me.

At 16, this girl became the youngest in the world to have a life-changing operation, can you guess what it was? | Mail Online
- Jackie Green, 19, was born a boy named Jack
- After seven attempts to kill herself and two years on suicide watch her parents let her become a girl
- On her 16th birthday she became the youngest person in the world to have a gender reassignment surgery
Many little girls dream of growing up to be someone like Jackie Green. An aspiring model, the 19-year-old’s cascading chestnut hair, porcelain complexion and aquiline nose are reminiscent of a pre-Raphaelite muse, or maybe one of the Downton actresses.

Intersex, Transsexual, Transgender Veterans
Transgender advocates, seemed to have made some inroads with the local Veterans Administration (VA) lately. The VA knows now that they have to provide many services to transgender veterans, but I guess have no idea how many of us are out there.
In order to find out how may of us are out there they are doing a bit of a survey. They are asking us to call, write or email them with the following information.
Name … (Not required, but if you are a current patient it is really helpful to identify)Branch of Service … (You know the drill)Time of service … (Years in, and dates)Your needs … (Hormones, Evaluation, Therapy, other medical)Proximity to the Nashville Region 9 center …

Alert: THIS IS IMPORTANT to all Veterans who are Intersex, Transsexual, or TransgenderThe VA Tennessee Regional Medical System is in need to know the density and number of Veterans who are afflicted with these conditions. THIS IS IMPORTANT to you and your fellow service Veterans. Simply, to get the appropriate care for the Veteran service community VA needs to know how many they may have in this region. It is a matter of establishing the need, so training and professionals in Therapy, Endocrinology, Psychology, and Social Services can be provided. Many of us are struggling to maintain, or to find a “SAFE PATH” to move forward. YOU ARE NEEDED! Please, respond to the following, asking for a Patient Advocate. It would be helpful to offer the following information, but if you are leery or feel concerned, then at least respond anonymously. However, to provide the following information will help greatly… And all will be held in privacy. This is for your battle buddies, and those who are now struggling as veterans, and on active duty who are right behind you. Stand up and be counted!Name … (Not required, but if you are a current patient it is really helpful to identify)Branch of Service … (You know the drill)Time of service … (Years in, and dates)Your needs … (Hormones, Evaluation, Therapy, other medical)Proximity to the Nashville Region 9 center …(Distance, i.e. covers Eastern Arkansas, Northern Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Western Virginia, Chattanooga area, Memphis, Knoxville, Nashville, see http://www2.va.gov/directory/guide/region_flsh. asp?map=0&ID=9 )

Everyone Else Has Had More Sex Than Me (TISM)
I found a few of the links were bad on my old post on this song and video. I fixed them to working ones. I still love this song. I kinda wholesale borrowed the code to play this video here too. To bad there is no pause on the controls (what controls) so it will just keep playing, sorry.
This was the winning video to this TISM song (yes that is a name of a group.) Wikipedia says this about TISM:
TISM (an acronym of This Is Serious Mum) is a seven piece anonymousalternative rock band from Melbourne, Australia. The group formed in 1982 and enjoyed a large underground / independent following until 1995 when its third album Machiavelli and the Four Seasons reached the Australian national top 10.

Does anyone else get that feeling?
Teenagers naked,
Couple in threes
Grandparents swing from the ceiling.
Everyone else has had more sex than me.

Corporate chambers and office amore.
Shenanigans outdoor and in.
Resist and then later your find out there's more
Regret in not doing the sin.
Our lives have to die
Of that there's no help
My favourite way to end them
Is the orb-weaver spider's whose pedipalp
Enters the female pudendum.
Then dies on the spot
His corpse there still stuck,
Left for his rivals to curse at.
He would rather die than not get to f^ck
Personally I reckon it's worth it.

Trans-Friendly Police Woman of Memphis
POSTED BY BIANCA PHILLIPS ON FRI, JUL 9, 2010 AT 2:24 PM
This may be old news to some, but I caught last week's episode of TLC's Police Women of Memphis in the encore showing last night. In one scene, Officer Joy Jefferson schools a couple of teens who had been harassing a couple of transgender ladies in a neighborhood near Latham and East Trigg.
- Officer Joy Jefferson
"You deserve to be comfortable and happy and on sit on your porch and rock your fuschia hair," Jefferson tells the transgender women after warning their harassers to stay away.
- Jefferson calms transgender harassment victims
Earlier in the scene, she tells the camera person riding along in her squad car, "If you are a good person, you should always be treated with respect."After the way former Memphis Police officer Bridges McRae handled relations with transgender police brutality victim Duanna Johnson in 2008, I guess I'd formed a negative opinion of the department's ability to deal with diversity. But Jefferson proved that some MPD officers are respectful to transgender people. Way to go, Jefferson!Watch the scene for yourself on TLC by clicking here. The police call in question is about seven minutes into the video, but you can fast forward if you're in a hurry.

My transgender heroines
I found this while looking for something else. I took the liberty of translating it from it's original Polish. I also found it interesting to read about all these transwomen around the world. So many accomplished women, that I had never heard of. It shows that we are everywhere and that I live in a bubble.
Way to go Carla!! Your becoming world renown.

"8": A Play about the Fight for Marriage Equality
I missed this event live last night, but I watched it when I should have been heading to bed. It is such a great play. I love movies about the law anyway. It is well worth your time to watch this.
It is about the court case to overturn Proposition 8 (the gay marriage ban) in California.
"8": A Play about the Fight for Marriage Equality
Featuring an all-star cast including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Martin Sheen, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jane Lynch, Kevin Bacon and others, "8" is a play written by Academy Award winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black and directed by acclaimed actor and director Rob Reiner. It is a powerful account of the case filed by the American Federation for Equal Rights (AFER ) in the U.S. District Court in 2010 to overturn Proposition 8 [LINK], a constitutional amendment that eliminated the rights of same-sex couples to marry in the state of California. Framed around the trial's historic closing arguments in June 2010, 8 provides an intimate look what unfolded when the issue of same-sex marriage was on trial.
