Intersex, Transsexual, Transgender Veterans

Transgender advocates, seemed to have made some inroads with the local Veterans Administration (VA) lately. The VA knows now that they have to provide many services to transgender veterans, but I guess have no idea how many of us are out there.

In order to find out how may of us are out there they are doing a bit of a survey. They are asking us to call, write or email them with the following information.

Name … (Not required, but if you are a current patient it is really helpful to identify)

Branch of Service  (You know the drill)

Time of service …  (Years in, and dates)

Your needs …  (Hormones, Evaluation, Therapy, other medical)

Proximity to the  Nashville  Region 9 center …

( Distance, i.e. covers Eastern Arkansas, Northern Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Western Virginia, Chattanooga area, Memphis, Knoxville, Nashville, see http://www2.va.gov/directory/guide/region_flsh.asp?map=0&ID=9  )

Alert:   THIS IS IMPORTANT to all Veterans who are Intersex, Transsexual, or Transgender

The VA Tennessee Regional Medical System is in need to know the density and number of Veterans who are afflicted with these conditions. THIS IS IMPORTANT to you and your fellow service Veterans. Simply, to get the appropriate care for the Veteran service community VA needs to know how many they may have in this region.  It is a matter of establishing the need, so training and professionals in Therapy, Endocrinology, Psychology, and Social Services can be provided.  Many of us are struggling to maintain, or to find a “SAFE PATH” to move forward.  YOU ARE NEEDED!  Please, respond to the following, asking for a Patient Advocate.  It would be helpful to offer the following information, but if you are leery or feel concerned, then at least respond anonymously.  However, to provide the following information will help greatly… And all will be held in privacy.  This is for your battle buddies, and those who are now struggling as veterans, and on active duty who are right behind you.  Stand up and be counted!

Hey Vickie, I'm just visiting the area but maybe you can fill in some blanks for me. The june 2011 VA directive states that the VA will provide all services to Trans patients, except SRS surgery to assist us in transition.

My question is, other than the Spironolactone I'm currently on and future Estrogen, will the VA provide Speech Therapy to help us feminize our voices?

I have not heard of any voice coaching as of yet from the VA. It would be so useful if they did.

Write me at davis . vickie @ gmail.com and let's meet someplace for a coffee or something.
